Nothing eventful really happened today…
which in healthcare usually means everything went right for once.
We had a call out, but somehow still made it work. Two overnight aides assisted for morning care. everyone was up, out of bed, washed up, and had breakfast by 9.
Honestly? A successful day in my book.
Families were in and out all day—it’s Mother’s Day weekend, so there was a lot of love in the building. You could feel it.
I’m planning to make waffles for the residents in the morning…
hoping to carry that same energy into the next shift.
But of course, healthcare always humbles you a little before you leave.
B didn’t look too good when I was heading out. The conversation started about comfort care…
and somehow, even when the goal is comfort, there are still hoops to jump through.
It was a lot.
And one of the hardest parts?
Having to hand it off to the overnight shift and walk away.
Some days are smooth.
Some moments aren’t.
And sometimes both happen in the same shift.
