🩺 Hospice, But Make It Real (What I’m Learning in Real Time)

Before this, I thought I understood hospice.

Comfort care.
End-of-life.
Keep them peaceful.

Simple… right?

Not exactly.

What I’m learning is—
hospice isn’t about doing more.

It’s about doing what matters most.

And sometimes that means:

  • Not calling 911 right away
  • Not rushing interventions
  • Not treating every number like an emergency

Even when everything in you is screaming to act.

Because in hospice, the goal shifts—

From saving a life
to supporting the life that’s still here.

And that’s a hard mental switch.

Especially when you see things like:
a sudden change in responsiveness
or a blood pressure of 231/116

In any other setting?
That’s go-time.

But here?

You pause.
You assess.
You call hospice.
You focus on comfort.

And trust the process.

💭 What I’m Taking From This

I’m learning that:

  • Not every situation needs to be “fixed”
  • Comfort can be more important than intervention
  • And staying calm matters just as much as acting fast

And honestly?

That’s not something a textbook can teach you.

That’s something you learn
in the moment…
with your heart racing…
trying to do right by your patient.
