Yesterday felt…off.
Maybe it was the thunderstorm coming, the gray skies, the heavy air–
but my mood was definitely not it.
Nothing major even happened.
No emergencies.
No chaos.
No “drop everything, we need a nurse” moments.
It was a stable Saturday…
with an unstable mood.
But today?
Completely different story.
The sun is out, there’s a nice breeze,
and I’m sitting outside with the residents while they nap–
just soaking it all in.
And you can feel it–
everyone’s spirits are lighter today.
It’s wild how much the weather really does affect the mood on the unit.
Now let me side eye something real quick 👀
A family member of another resident was preparing to give another resident ice cream because she asked for it… and I’m sitting here like—
why is this man giving this resident ice cream
when doesn’t he know her history or food allergies??
Like… why?? 😭
I get it—he’s being kind.
And it is a sweet gesture.
But also…
this is healthcare.
My brain immediately goes to:
Does he know she has allergies?
Is she lactose intolerant?
Is that even part of her diet order??
Maybe it’s just my nurse brain that won’t shut off…
but still…
Kindness is always appreciated…
but in healthcare, it has to come with awareness too.
Because sometimes…
stepping outside your lane can do more harm than good.
Meanwhile, activities today = trivia + ice cream social, which honestly sounds like a perfect combo.
Good vibes, full bellies, a little brain exercise—
we love to see it.
So far, this Sunday has been smooth and steady.
Wounds are done.
Med pass complete for first shift.
No chaos. Just calm.
And honestly…
we don’t get enough days like this.
Scrubs and Side Eyes
