A Little Love for the MAs: The Ones Who Keep the Office Running β€οΈπŸ©Ί

A shout-out to the medical assistants who do a little bit of everything, all day long, and somehow keep coming back for more.

Medical Assistant Week may be wrapping up, but I don’t think we should need one designated week to appreciate the people who keep medical offices running.

And this one is personal for me.

Before I became an LPN, I spent YEARS as a medical assistant. It was a huge part of my career, and it’s a role that will always hold a special place in my heart.

So, from someone who has been on both sides of the scrubs, let me say this:

MEDICAL ASSISTANTS, YOU DESERVE YOUR FLOWERS. 🌷

Because if you know, you KNOW.

The job description says medical assistant. The actual job? EVERYTHING. πŸ˜‚

Rooming patients? Check.

Taking vitals? Check.

Getting medication lists updated? Check.

Answering phones? Check.

Returning messages? Check.

Refilling prescriptions? Routing questions to providers? Chasing down paperwork? Trying to figure out why the schedule is suddenly a disaster?

CHECK. CHECK. CHECK.

And let’s not forget the patients who arrive 20 minutes late but still expect to be seen immediately, the phone that won’t stop ringing, the provider who’s running behind, and the next patient who’s already waiting.

Meanwhile, you’re trying to finish documenting the last visit while preparing for the next one.

And someone inevitably asks, “Hey, do you have a second?”

A SECOND?!

I haven’t had a second since 8:07 this morning. πŸ˜‚πŸ˜

Medical assistants are constantly switching gears, juggling competing priorities, and trying to keep everything moving while still making patients feel cared for.

It’s a lot.

And sometimes, people don’t see just how much you’re doing because when everything runs smoothly, they don’t realize how much work it took to make that happen.

To the MAs who make a difference ❀️

Thank you for being the familiar face who helps a nervous patient feel comfortable.

Thank you for noticing when someone doesn’t look quite right.

Thank you for helping a provider get through a packed schedule.

Thank you for answering that phone call, tracking down that missing piece of information, and helping patients navigate a system that can sometimes feel overwhelming.

Thank you for being the person who remembers the little things.

And thank you for the million tasks you complete behind the scenes that nobody thinks to mention when the day is over.

Your work matters.

Your skills matter.

Your knowledge matters.

And your ability to keep going on the days when everything seems to be happening at once? That matters, too.

From MA to LPN: I’ll always have a soft spot for you. 🩺

Having spent years as a medical assistant before becoming a nurse, I have so much respect for this role.

Those years were part of my journey into nursing. They gave me experience working with patients, communicating with providers, navigating busy outpatient settings, and learning how healthcare works beyond the exam room.

I know what it’s like to be pulled in multiple directions and still have to make the patient in front of you feel like they have your attention.

I know what it’s like to have a full schedule, a ringing phone, and a to-do list that seems to multiply every time you cross something off.

And I know how easy it is for the work you do to become invisible because everyone expects you to just handle it.

So, when I say I appreciate medical assistants, it’s not just because I think it’s a valuable profession.

It’s because I’ve been there.

I haven’t forgotten where I started, and I never want to lose sight of the people who help keep outpatient healthcare moving every single day.

A little reminder, because you deserve to hear it. πŸ’•

To every medical assistant who feels underappreciated, overwhelmed, or like you’re doing the work of three people while being paid for one:

I see you.

Your patients benefit from your care. Your providers rely on your work. Your coworkers depend on you more than you might realize.

You are not just a medical assistant.

You are an important part of the healthcare team.

And although Medical Assistant Week only comes around once a year, your contributions deserve recognition every single day.

So here’s my shout-out to all the MAs out there, especially the ones working in the trenches, keeping the wheels turning, and somehow managing to smile at the next patient even when they’ve already had a DAY.

Thank you for what you do. Thank you for what you bring to healthcare. And thank you for being such an important part of my own journey.

From one former MA to all of you still out there doing the thing: I see you, I appreciate you, and I will ALWAYS have a soft spot for my medical assistants. ❀️

Happy Medical Assistant Week! 🩺🌷
